1. How would you describe your style in 3 words?

[This question] always throw me off! I would best describe my style as vibrant, eclectic, and feminine.

2. Who or what are your current biggest style inspirations?

I am constantly inspired by vintage style and fashion icons like Audrey Hepburn, Grace Kelly, and Brigette Bardot. But with a modern twist. I also keep up with current street style through social media.

Street style is forever inspiring because it’s ever changing and always unique. I love using juxtaposition to create interest in outfits, like mixing feminine with masculine, vintage with modern, or bright colors and patterns.

3. What does personal style mean to you?

To me, personal style is what you get when you don’t care about what other people think anymore. You don’t care what’s considered “flattering” or “trendy” and you just wear whatever you like and makes you happy.

4. What's on your thrift list right now?

Oh gosh. Colorful leather. A cropped, fitted sweater vest. Comfortable, heeled loafers. A chunky cardigan. And color. So much color and so many prints.

5. Who would you invite to your fantasy dinner party?

This is a good one. Definitely Janelle Monáe, she’s a huge fashion icon to me. Love her style and her music. Kristen Bell, I have been loving her so much lately. She’s so funny, and outspoken, and relatable. And Lizzo! I love her, I love her music, I love how unapologetically confidence she is, and I love fellow fat girl representation.

6. And the bonus question I like to ask everyone before they go: what's something you're really proud of right now?

This might sound pointless but I’m proud of the fact that I’m trying. Things haven’t always been great, and at times my life feels like it isn’t anywhere near where it should be. Especially when I compare my life to the successes of others. But I’m trying. I’m growing. And I’m getting there in my own time.

WEAR IS... MARIA SALDIVAR?

Maria Saldivar is perhaps the loveliest "Jill" of all trades you could ever hope to meet. Not only does she play piano and sew gorgeous pieces from scratch, she weaves her various passions and interests into one killer sense of style. She describes it as "Femme Spring," we describe it as "um-how-do-I-become-as-cool-as-you?"

Her Instagram is a candy colored wonder to behold, filled with her music, thrifts, sewed creations, magical travel endeavors and much more. So keep reading for her thoughts on Wes Anderson, true crime comedy and her personal hashtag, #sewrosymaria.

Hi, Maria! Please introduce your wonderful self!

Hi there! My name is Maria Saldivar, but you can also call me Rosy Maria. I am a 27 year old California gal obsessed with DIY projects, thrifting, and sewing.

1. How would you describe your style?

I would describe my style as “Femme Spring”. Since I live in California where it is usually sunny and warm. I’m always wearing skirts, dresses, and pastel colors. Whether it gets cold or hot I am always rocking spring attire. Plus wearing skirts and dresses is such an easy way to pull off effortless chic outfits without thinking too much about it.

2. If you could travel to any time period in fashion, which would choose?

I would definitely go back into the 1930s. It was an era all about flowy satins and silks with a whole lot of flounce and ruffles. I also have this one vintage sewing pattern from the 1930’s just filled with dramatic yet dainty sleeves, I’m Obsessed!

3. How did you discover your personal style or are you still discovering it?

I think my personal style was always changing throughout the years. I went through different phases where tumblr and Korean fashion were my main sources of inspiration.

Over recent years I’ve gotten more comfortable with my sense of style where I’m not focusing so much on trendy items rather I look for styles I personally like. A lot of inspiration for my personal style now comes from thrifting, vintage sewing patterns and movies.

4. Do you have any current favorite? (podcasts, books, songs, etc?)

I am obsessed with “My Favorite Murder” a true crime comedy podcast. This podcast has me gasping, laughing, and crying on my hour commute home, it's the best. Also I have to mention my favorite band “The Marias”. They are a snazzy psychedelic soul band from Los Angeles. Everytime I listen to their music I feel like I’m in a different world.

5. Aside from style, what other hobbies or interests do you have?

Other than fashion things, I play the piano in my spare time. As a kid it was something my parents made me do, but as an adult I’ve found a new joy playing songs that I want to learn for myself. I am also obsessed with movies. My favorite director is Wes Anderson. I love his style of directing and storytelling. If I had to choose a favorite film he’s made I would choose Moonrise Kingdom.

6. And the bonus question I like to ask everyone before they go: what's something you're really proud of right now?

I feel most proud of all the clothes I sewed from scratch. I didn’t take any classes or lessons for sewing so everything I made is all self-taught. Sometimes I go through my closet wondering where did I get this blouse but I realized I made it myself!

Wear is… Elizabeth Sherwood?

Hi! Welcome back to Wear is She Wednesdays, a series that highlights one special girl each week to let her shine! Every Wednesday, we feature a different “she,” and get the scoop on her style, what makes her tick, and how the heck we can learn to be as awesome as she is. Today we’re asking the question everyone wants to know… Wear is Elizabeth Sherwood?

WEAR IS... ELIZABETH SHERWOOD?

Elizabeth Sherwood has magic in her veins. Her boundless creativity can be felt especially through her personal style which she shares on her fashion focused Instagram, StayGoldenGirl. She's not afraid to print mix or test out bold silhouettes and it would seem she possesses an uncanny ability to find buried treasure among the racks of every thrift store she goes to.

Today we get to enter her wondrous world of music, vintage and much more so keep reading for her thoughts on the color pink, Princess Diana and asking for what you want.

Hi, Elizabeth! Please introduce your wonderful self!

Hello lovelies! My name is Elizabeth Sherwood and I currently live in Nashville, TN with my songwriter sweetheart. I moved to Music City 7 years ago from the Richmond, VA area, and I have absolutely fallen in love with this town. I studied Fashion Marketing & Management at the Savannah College of Art & Design, which led me to my first career in fashion retail.

From a vintage shop, to Gap, to Burberry, I worked at 8 different retailers from the age of 16 to 25. Now, I work in digital and social media marketing, a field that I absolutely love. When I'm not thrifting and working on StayGoldenGirl, I love catching up on the latest digital/social media trends (nerdy, I know).

1. How would you describe your style in 3 words?

Oh, this is always so tough! I would say that my style is consistently feminine, vintage-inspired, and edgy. I love mixing sweet silhouettes and patterns with something more bold, minimal, and street style. I also ADORE the color pink, so that definitely lends to my more feminine approach to style. I'm always down to try something new, but these are the style mainstays that will always feel the most "me."

2. Who or what are your current biggest style inspirations?

I will always be inspired by fashion icons like Audrey Hepburn, Princess Diana, and Ali Macgraw (to name a few)! These leading ladies had such timeless styles, but weren't afraid to stand out and make a statement. Honestly, my mother has always been a huge fashion influence for me too- you will see why when she makes appearances on my Instagram! Accounts like @alyssainthecity, @baileywomack, and @aaricanichole are also endlessly inspiring.

3. What does personal style mean to you?

Personal style is all about the story that you want to tell the world. Before you even say a word, people see what you're wearing. It's the most challenging, inspiring, and creative quest to constantly tell this story in a new way.

4. What's on your thrift list right now?

So many things! I love the color green, which is HUGE for Spring 2020- I need more of it in my closet! I'm also interested in finding more vintage button-ups, satin slip dresses (so flattering), and little, colorful handbags. As I'm getting ready for warmer weather, I will definitely be keeping an eye out for cotton sundresses and strappy sandals too...I can never get enough!

5. Who would you invite to your fantasy dinner party?

Without question, Julia Roberts, Nicole Kidman, and Diane Keaton. Just the thought of this makes me giddy!

6. And the bonus question I like to ask everyone before they go: what's something you're really proud of right now?

I'm really proud of how far I have come with my account, StayGoldenGirl (juggling everything with a full-time job can be a lot sometimes)! I have never worked harder than I have in the past year, but it has been the most rewarding journey. I have learned that you should never sell yourself short...the things that you want aren't that far away, sometimes you just have to ask for them.

Wear is… Jamie Espino?

Hi! Welcome back to Wear is She Wednesdays, a series that highlights one special girl each week to let her shine! WEAR IS... JAMIE ESPINO?

Jamie Espino is going places. Not only is her personality just as much fun as her whimsical style, but her bold spirit has her boldly entering into the world entrepreneurialism. At 25 Jamie is taking charge of her destiny by running her own online vintage store, Poorly Curated.

Jamie is filled with humor and inspiration so keep reading for her thoughts on selling vintage full time, fish-shaped bags and trivia.

Hi, ! Please introduce your wonderful self!

Hi, I'm Jamie! I'm a 25-year-old, vintage curator based in Arkansas... well, at least that's the job title I went with for my passport.

1. What was the inspiration behind starting Poorly Curated?

Well, I was in a post-grad ennui phase. Applying to jobs at companies that didn’t quite align with my beliefs, wondering how I could be in a creative career but mindful of the environment and labor practices, the whole bit. So I decided to sell vintage full time as a more sustainable alternative to being a photo editing assistant at a fast fashion company or something.

2. Can you tell us a little about what it's like running your own vintage store?

Sure, to start off I’m a one-person show. I source items, do laundry, photograph them, edit pics, post listings, and update social media. It requires a lot of self-motivation to stay on track and figure out what exactly I need to do each day. But it’s nice to have a flexible schedule because it allows me to choose my free time/travel.

I would say the best part is extending the life-span of garments, and making someone else happy while doing so. So many gems are already in circulation, so why waste new materials? The worst part is probably Instagram because it makes me feel like a vain little capitalist sometimes.

It’s really draining to see people tagging 20 brands on a picture of their face or having a serious, personal caption that ends with “btw 10% off @ _____”. That being said, it is great to connect with customers and other people that run vintage shops.

3. What are some of the best pieces you've sold in your shop?

It’s hard to say what’s “best” since [there are so many] different tastes and styles, y’know? But I think I like when I sell pieces that are 0% trendy. Like one time I found an insulated, sea bass-shaped bag. Also a chainlink apron.

4. How would you describe your personal style?

The formula I’ve figured out is clown on top + skate boy bottom half = fun and comfy. Lotsa high waisted pants and sneakers, but paired with an interesting shirt.

5. What's your current favorite item in your wardrobe and why?

Ooh, that’s a little tough but I’d have to say my 90s Jean Paul Gaultier long sleeve. It’s mesh and has an all-over print of Birth of Venus by Botticelli. I allow myself one designer investment piece per year and this was very worth it.

6. And the bonus question I like to ask everyone before they go: what's something you're really proud of right now?

I don’t think theres anything currently...pride is a very fleeting feeling... Oh! Our team got first place at trivia last week.
