Hi Kayla! Please introduce your wonderful self!

So nice to E-meet you! I’ll be meeting your audience really soon or probably now that this is live. Hello! I’m Kayla Homenok. I’m born and raised in a french and English borough in Montréal, Qc, Canada called Pierrefonds. (Hello to all my USA and Canadian friends, Canada gang 🇨🇦 !)

I’m a freelancer and artist in the digital realm; my creative passions are content creation, social media, writing, community management, mood boarding, and of course graphic design. I love creating for the wellness & lifestyle world. You can call me a Graphic Designer and Artist for short, that’s my biggest focus at the moment 🦋 I also am a big fan of healing through yoga, reading, cooking wholesome and hearty recipes ( love me some vegan chili!), laws of attraction, and tea.

1. Can you tell us a bit about how you got into graphic design and about your creation process?

In High School, you’re kind of lost towards the end of your years as a student. I was in the midst of not knowing my path and very-very! uncertain! My mental health was very weak…I got my thought process back towards the end of my 4 years and my creative conscience was telling me Graphic Design while we were all applying for college in 2015!

Fast forward to 2018, as a college graduate in Graphic Design, I’ve gained reasonable knowledge and skills but it was only until 2019 I started using Instagram as a safe space for my internal struggles, emotions, and affirmations. As for the Process! It all comes from my soul and if you can keep that level of authenticity your work will be one of a kind.

My steps as an artist go in this order I enlighten myself with a self-help book, yoga, a poem, Tumblr, Pinterest as a point of reference ⇥ I see a phrase that resonates with me ⇥ I generate it the passage directly or interpret the words into a quote on Adobe Illustrator ⇥ the colours represent my aura at that given moment…the gradients and colours you see on Kaysthetics3000 are purely by chance.

2. Who or what are your current biggest creative inspirations?

Do you ever see a vintage ad or self-help book cover from the 80s/90s? That is my inspo. Throughout my years at college, I’ve been a huge fan of vintage 80s/90s design, fashion, architecture, photography! And I try to implement an aesthetic through every aspect of my day/ life.

These creatives inspire me every day:

3. How would you describe your personal fashion style?

Colour!! And I don’t know if this makes sense but hear me out…A contemporary Hypebae? I love bold statement sneakers, with a neutral outfit, or maybe a navy contemporary prairie dress with a fresh pair of new balances.

ALSO: Comfy if I’m working from home or have a day off…a good graphic tee and sweats. Or my Frank and Oak hoodie and biker shorts 🙂 If I am strolling downtown in the Summer it’s definitely a contemporary, colourful, patterned, dress. Something about a fitted denim overall dress with a white baby tee under it hits just right!

4. What's on your thrift list right now?

How did you know I thrift hehe, thrifted clothes are 95% of my wardrobe!! Here are some finds I dream of: Vintage black velcro Chanel sandals & graphic tees with good words from the 80s/90s. Vintage anything!

5. Where would you go on your ultimate dream vacation?

Somewhere with a huge field, rainforest, or ocean. Somewhere I can cultivate happiness and feel all the elements in that country. I just don’t know which one yet hehe.

6. And the bonus question I like to ask everyone before they go: what's something you're really proud of right now?

My growth! My mind, my affirmation building, my safe space, and the community I’ve built on kaysthetics3000. I sometimes am taken aback by the overwhelming support my followers have shown me. I have never felt at home with my art, until now. I am so proud of my consistency and my willpower as a person who struggles with mental & chronic illness!! I can go on with this question, thank you for asking it 🙂

Where else can we find you, Kayla?

I am always in my bed, but digitally I’m on Instagram as@kaysthetics and @kaysthetics3000 & Pinterest as Kaysthetics! These are my go-to right now…hopefully when my portfolio gets stronger with the small projects I have coming up you'll see a web link one day! (I even Twitter & Tumblr…but those will be left a mystery 🤫).

WEAR IS... MIA O'NEAL?

Laid-back Cali Girl, Mia O'Neal, is the epitome of cool. Her everchanging wardrobe, inspired by her travels, effortlessly combines multiple aesthetics while refusing to stay within structured boxes.

Who knows where the world will take this bright young woman, or perhaps, more importantly where she will take the world! But for now, keep reading for Mia's thoughts on airbrushed prints, her two cats and racial representation.

Mia O'Neal opens up about racial representation.

Hi Mia! Please introduce your wonderful self!

Hello! I’m Mia O’Neal and I live in Southern California. I am 18 years old and heading into my freshman year of college as a film major!

1. How would you describe your style in 3 words?

I’d probably say right now it’s a mix of street, feminine, and layered, but my style is constantly evolving!

2. Who or what are your current biggest style inspirations?

My biggest inspiration definitely comes from people I just casually encounter on a day to day basis— especially when I am traveling/in the city! My recent trip to Tokyo last summer really got me into Japanese street style <3 I’d also say social media is a great inspiration point for me.

3. What does personal style mean to you?

My personal style means a lot to me! It’s one of the many outlets I have to express myself as an individual wanting to pursue the creative industry! Knowing that I can put an outfit together each day keeps me up and going.

4. What's on your thrift list right now?

My list keeps piling up now since thrift stores have been closed lately ;( but some of the items on my list right now include 70s flares, airbrushed prints, mesh tops with graphics, lacy bustiers, and gold jewelry!!

Mia O'Neal

5. Who would you invite to your fantasy dinner party?

Probably just my best friends and my two cats :-3

6. And the bonus question I like to ask everyone before they go: what's something you're really proud of right now?

Definitely my self-confidence. As a mixed black and Asian girl, I grew up in a constant internal battle with myself trying to grasp a sense of belonging in a world that catered to white people and eurocentric beauty standards. The concept of a beauty standard didn't exist to me. I was just convinced that in order to be pretty, it was pure fact that you had to be white.

Fortunately, as more POC began to be represented in media over recent years, I could resonate with these individuals and started to see beauty and potential within myself. Now, I am much more prideful and appreciative of my ethnic backgrounds and would never trade them for anything else.

Where else can we find you, Mia?

You can find me on instagram @miaoneals and I also have a depop shop @juicerack where I curate a lot of my vintage finds from the thrift if anyone is interested in taking a look!

Hi Loïs! Please introduce your wonderful self!

My name is Loïs, I am 17 years old and I live near Amsterdam in Holland. I am obsessed with everything concerning creativity and style. I love fashion, painting, styling, photography, graphic design, playing hockey and singing. I just graduated, earlier than expected due to Corona. After my graduation I am taking a gap year.

I am planning on spending much time creating things, working, traveling and all the things I love to do. I really want to go to Copenhagen again, since I have fallen in love with this incredibly inspiring city. Highly recommended if you love Danish design, fashion and art! I decided to attend a folk high school in August and I really hope it goes as planned.

1. How would you describe your personal style?

My style really depends on my mood and what I am into that time, it varies quite a lot. One day I could be really ‘urban’, then I wear: an oversized hoodie with some graphic, rough denim boyfriend jeans, an oversized short jacket, big hoop earrings and a big chain necklace. I always to give it a classic touch like heels or an elegant bag.

Then the other day, I am wearing pantaloons, a white fluffy sweater with balloon sleeves, a trench coat and my cowboy boots. Oh yeah, and lots of necklaces. I love to combine many styles together and try out new things. My style is a mix of: urban, classy, edgy, minimal, girly, Danish, cowgirl, vintage, boho, retro and a lot of pastel colours. I loveee the 90s vibe toooo!

2. Who or what are your current biggest style inspirations?

Emma Moldt, Josefine HJ, Vivian Hoorn, Matilda Djerf, Alice Violier, Mikaela Hallan, Lexsowet, emnita and Ella Karberg And the list goes on and on and on. I love so many!

3. How did you discover your personal style or are you still discovering it?

I have always been someone who was obsessed with fashion and styling. At the age around 10, I was trying to make my own clothing. Nothing good came out of that haha. Over the years I have developed my style as it is now. Looking back on the first years of high school, I dressed quite basic. I wore a lot of simple graphic shirts from Brandy Melville. A bit later I was really into pink sweaters with stripes, flared leggings and black boots everyone had at that time. I guess we all go through phases.

A year or so ago, I was really into buying a lot of fast fashion items. It was cheap, easy and I liked the feeling of buying something new. I scanned the ‘new in’ page of ZARA, Bershka and every day hunting for new styles, I knew all collections by heart. At a certain point, I realized that this was completely out of mind and decided to stop. Ever since, my policy has been that I only buy vintage and second hand myself and receiving gifts from brands that I love. But still my closet is exploding. It has been a long road, made several mistakes when it comes to styling. But what’s better than laughing at your old-selfs.

At this point, I am really into the Danish style of dressing and mixing it with a lot of vintage comfy stuff. Honestly, you can often find me wearing a simple old 501 Levi’s, a cute top, an oversized blouse, heels and hoop earrings.

4. What's on your thrift list right now?

I don’t have a lot of great shorts that are both comfy and stylish (and cover your ass) so I am on the hunt for those. What I am also really into lately are vintage jewels, with big pearls and colourful beads. Oh and don’t forget cute bags and vintage tops, they are always on the list 😉

5. What's your go-to midnight snack?

My favourite Kettle brand crisps; sea salt balsamic vinegar. Best ever tasted! I also love crushed cookies with yoghurt and fruits on top as a late-night snack, tasty and still kinda healthy.

6. And the bonus question I like to ask everyone before they go: what's something you're really proud of right now?

Almost hitting 10k! It has been a dream for so long and I am finally coming really close. I am also really proud of all the work I have pulled of so far and grateful for all the amazing brands I got to work with. I am seventeen and I feel quite lucky for doing this.

WEAR IS... SARAH ISENBERG?

Sarah Isenberg loves works of art so much, she's become one. From LA to New York, she brings her impeccable sense of style, inspired by the masterpieces she studies, everywhere she goes. She's known as @happy_tunes on Instagram, and it sums up much of what you can expect to find through her content: a beautiful harmony of bright and cheery outfits.

With such a cool factor at just 21, it's clear that there is so much greatness (and plenty more fabulous outfits) ahead of her. So stay tuned and in the mean time, keep reading for her thoughts on Amy March, painterly clothes and and Scandinavian swimmers.

Sarah Isenberg

Hi Sarah! Please introduce your wonderful self!

Hi! I’m Sarah and I’m a 21 year old art historian. As much as I hate people who self describe as bi-coastal, the term really has applied to me as of late. I was born and raised in LA, moved to New York last June (and again in January), but since the big Q hit I’m now back in LA with family.

1. How would you describe your personal style?

My personal style is seriously all over the place. I think the best way to describe it would be “if a picnic was a person.” I like long, flowy, Victorian-ish dresses, and am consistently drawn to patterns that have fruit on it, florals, and gingham of course! I also love a good jumpsuit no matter what.

2. Who or what are your current biggest style inspirations?

My style inspirations are always changing but I’d say my current ones are Amy March, Francoise Hardy, @thankyou_ok on instagram, David Hockney, Susan Alexandra, David Byrne’s big suit from “Stop Making Sense" and the Haim sisters (they went to the same middle school as me! But not at the same time.)

3. How did you discover your personal style or are you still discovering it?

I think that my personal style is and always will be constantly changing. I’ve always had a really strong sense of style and known what i liked (see photo of me in a mermaid dress and hard hat at my combined princess/bob the builder 4th birthday party). In high school i was really influenced by rookie mag, and that’s where I really learned not to care about what other people thought about what I wore (see flower crown / black lipstick phase in high school) and did a lot of experimenting with bold styles.

Rookie’s influence definitely made me more confident in my style and more unabashed in the things I liked even if it doesn’t adhere to a cohesive aesthetic. I think now, as an art historian, my style is very influenced by, well, art! I notice a lot of primary colors in my wardrobe, as well as patterns/shapes that are reminiscent of Hockney or Matisse as well as florals that take after Dutch still life paintings. I think there’s a very painterly quality to a lot of the clothes I wear too; swishy, flowy dresses, boxy structured tops and wide leg pants.

4. What's on your thrift list right now?

Right now, even though I won’t be able to wear it anywhere for a while, I am looking to thrift a good swimsuit. I’m pretty picky about my swimwear— I don’t really like to have my butt out too much and prefer high waisted bottoms. Luckily, my specifications are in line with a lot of vintage swimwear, so I’ve been scouring Depop and Ebay to find the perfect suit.

Sarah Isenberg
Sarah Isenberg

5. What's your go-to midnight snack?

My go to midnight snack is probably anything that you can buy in the check out aisle at Trader Joe’s like the Scandinavian swimmers, chocolate peanut butter cups or power berries! Also, ice cream of course, or shredded cheese straight out of the bag.

6. And the bonus question I like to ask everyone before they go: what's something you're really proud of right now?

Right now, I’m really proud of myself for having my undergraduate thesis published! I wrote it on the Swedish painter Hilma af Klint, (she is SO COOL google her if you don’t know her!!) and even got a grant from my school to travel to Sweden to interview people and learn more about her life. I put a lot of blood, sweat and tears into writing it, and loved delving so deeply into her works. Getting it published and out into the world makes me feel really accomplished and totally validates all the hard work I put in!

Wear is… Kelly Peacock?

Hi! Welcome back to Wear is She Wednesdays, a series that highlights one special girl each week to let her shine! Every Wednesday, we feature a different “she,” and get the scoop on her style, what makes her tick, and how the heck we can learn to be as awesome as she is. WEAR IS... KELLY PEACOCK?

Intelligent and poised, Kelly Peacock is living the Brooklyn dream. After moving to the big city, she quickly began pursuing her passion for writing, which she often shares with her growing social media following. And scrolling through her effortless (and often coffee filled) imagery feels like easy Sunday mornings and French elegance.

Her style dances within the realms of breezy minimalism, but don't be mistaken, there is nothing minimal about her talent and creativity. This writer is going places and we can't wait to see where! So keep reading for her thoughts on psych thrillers, fast fashion and writing poetry at coffee shops.

Kelly Peacock
Kelly Peacock

Hi Kelly! Please introduce your wonderful self!

Hi! My name is Kelly Peacock and I'm a Brooklyn-based poet and writer, doing content marketing and writing for Thought Catalog. I also do some social media content for brands, like Mejuri (#finecrew hi!).

1. How would you describe your style?

Definitely comfy. Trendy, cute, casual. I like to wear "girly" pieces like dresses and cute ruffled off-the-shoulder tops with little sandals just as much as I like to wear an oversized tee and biker shorts and Air Forces.

2. Where are your favorite places to shop and why?

I'm trying to shop more sustainably and less fast fashion. It's hard but it's making me a lot more conscious about things. Thankfully, I live in New York and there are thrift stores everywhere, but I can't rely on them for jeans that fit my body type, so for that, I typically go to Zara or Madewell.

Kelly Peacock

3. How did you discover your personal style or are you still discovering it?

I don't know if there was a point when I discovered my style, I think it just came naturally and through influence from my friends and social media. There are things I like to wear that I know fit my body type and what feels like me. Whether if I'm wearing sweatpants and a crop top or a flowy dress, my style is really just whatever I feel comfortable in and most like myself.

4. Do you have any current favorite? (podcasts, books, songs, etc?)

SO MANY FAVORITES. I'm an avid reader and read a lot of psych thrillers, but my favorite books would have to be Madame Bovary by Gustave Flaubert and Call Me By Your Name by André Aciman--the writing in both of these are just..*chefs kiss*.

I'm also obsessed with music, specifically Harry Styles, The 1975, LANY, The National, Gregory Alan Isakov, J Cole, The Band CAMINO, Phoebe Bridgers. Let me just send my Spotify, haha. I've been trying to get into podcasts more, but I can't seem to stray away from Dateline, Crime Junkie, Killer Queens, Call Her Daddy, Up Schitt's Creek, and The Daily Show With Trevor Noah: Ears Edition.

5. Aside from style, what other hobbies or interests do you have?

I love to read. I love to watch Netflix or Hulu. I also love thrifting, writing poetry at a coffee shop, hanging out with friends at the park, wandering around the streets of Soho, and people-watching (these hobbies were all before quarantine).

6. And the bonus question I like to ask everyone before they go: what's something you're really proud of right now?

I graduated from college in May 2018 with a Creative Writing degree, and in November 2018, I moved to New York City and got myself a job as a writer. I still can't believe it--some days I have to pinch myself to make sure I'm not dreaming.

Where else can we find you, Kelly?

I spend a lot of time on Instagram (@kellyapeacock) and Twitter (@kellyapeacock), so you can find me there! I'm trying to post more of my poetry on my Instagram.
