Hi, Maria! Please introduce your wonderful self!

Hi there! My name is Maria Saldivar, but you can also call me Rosy Maria. I am a 27 year old California gal obsessed with DIY projects, thrifting, and sewing.

1. How would you describe your style?

I would describe my style as “Femme Spring”. Since I live in California where it is usually sunny and warm. I’m always wearing skirts, dresses, and pastel colors. Whether it gets cold or hot I am always rocking spring attire. Plus wearing skirts and dresses is such an easy way to pull off effortless chic outfits without thinking too much about it.

2. If you could travel to any time period in fashion, which would choose?

I would definitely go back into the 1930s. It was an era all about flowy satins and silks with a whole lot of flounce and ruffles. I also have this one vintage sewing pattern from the 1930’s just filled with dramatic yet dainty sleeves, I’m Obsessed!

3. How did you discover your personal style or are you still discovering it?

I think my personal style was always changing throughout the years. I went through different phases where tumblr and Korean fashion were my main sources of inspiration.

Over recent years I’ve gotten more comfortable with my sense of style where I’m not focusing so much on trendy items rather I look for styles I personally like. A lot of inspiration for my personal style now comes from thrifting, vintage sewing patterns and movies.

4. Do you have any current favorite? (podcasts, books, songs, etc?)

I am obsessed with “My Favorite Murder” a true crime comedy podcast. This podcast has me gasping, laughing, and crying on my hour commute home, it's the best. Also I have to mention my favorite band “The Marias”. They are a snazzy psychedelic soul band from Los Angeles. Everytime I listen to their music I feel like I’m in a different world.

5. Aside from style, what other hobbies or interests do you have?

Other than fashion things, I play the piano in my spare time. As a kid it was something my parents made me do, but as an adult I’ve found a new joy playing songs that I want to learn for myself. I am also obsessed with movies. My favorite director is Wes Anderson. I love his style of directing and storytelling. If I had to choose a favorite film he’s made I would choose Moonrise Kingdom.

6. And the bonus question I like to ask everyone before they go: what's something you're really proud of right now?

I feel most proud of all the clothes I sewed from scratch. I didn’t take any classes or lessons for sewing so everything I made is all self-taught. Sometimes I go through my closet wondering where did I get this blouse but I realized I made it myself!

Where else can we find you, Maria?

You can find me on Instagram @mariasaldivarr where I share my personal style, thrift hauls, and sewing projects under #sewrosymaria. I also have a youtube channel Rosy Maria I occasionally post a few vlogs and lookbooks there.
