WEAR IS... POPPY ALMOND?
Between the art she creates and outfits she flaunts, Poppy Almond lives in a pastel colored dream world. Scrolling through her Instagram is like meandering through a visual candy shop. And one thing is for certain, Poppy isn't afraid of color; lime greens, bright purples. baby blues, it doesn't matter, she wears it all. Keep reading for her thoughts on digital illustrations, inspiring interiors and strawberry cheesecake.
Hi, Poppy! Please introduce your wonderful self!
Hello! I’m Poppy. I’m currently based in Leeds and I’m a freelance designer and illustrator.
1. As an illustrator and designer, can you tell us a little about your creative process?
My creative process varies depending on the project but I usually start by doodling ideas! Although I mainly work digitally now but I still have to start by sketching out ideas.
2. What most inspires your work?
I get inspiration from anywhere and everywhere! Of course other designs and artists inspire me. I get most of my inspiration from things I see, whether that be food I’ve seen, plants on a walk or my friends interiors.
3. Your outfits are just as much fun as your creations! How would you describe your personal style?
I just try to have fun with my outfits. I love colour and textures so I’m instantly drawn to anything colourful or printed! I love combining different patterns and colours and pushing what’s usually considered to go together.
4. Who or what are your current biggest style inspirations?
I’m really into Scandinavian style at the minute and their use of patterns and pastel palettes! My biggest style inspirations are probably Megan Ellaby, Marianne Theodorsen and Marie Wibe Jedig.
5. What does personal style mean to you?
I think it’s so important to have your own personal style and to be comfortable with your style. It’s a way to express yourself and a way to be creative.
6. What type of dessert do you think most describes you?
Ooooh, a strawberry cheesecake!
7. And the bonus question I like to ask everyone before they go: what's something you're really proud of right now?
I had a really tough 2019 but I’m so proud that I kept being creative and pushing myself. I’m proud that I kept designing and took the jump with being fully freelance!
