Hi! Welcome back to Wear is She Now Wednesdays, a series that highlights one special girl each week to let her shine! Every Wednesday, we feature a different “she,” and get the scoop on her style, what makes her tick, and how the heck we can learn to be as awesome as she is. Today we’re asking the question everyone wants to know… Wear is Mary Bordelon?
WEAR IS... MARY BORDELON?
When the lovely Mary Bordelon moved to New York from West Virginia, this small town girl took Brooklyn by storm. I had the pleasure of spending nearly the entire summer with Mary and watched in awe as she dove right into New York City life, (an experience that has intimidated many before her), with the same effortless grace she approaches her personal style with. Mary somehow manages to blend Parisian chic, Brooklyn casual and ultra-sweet farm girl vibes into one covetable wardrobe. Read this “it” girl’s interview below to get lost in her wonderfully aesthetic world.
1. How would you describe your style in 3 words?
I would say cozy, casual, chic!
2. What’s your current favorite item in your wardrobe and why?
This changes super often, but right now it’s probably this vintage dress I thrifted over the summer! It’s maxi length with buttons down the front, covered in the most beautiful sage green watercolor floral pattern.
I love to wear it with kitten heels, but also with sneakers to dress it down. I’ve also been getting a ton of wear out of this little navy linen chore jacket I scored for fifty cents!
3. Is there anything in your wardrobe that has special memories? If so, tell us about them!
My entire closet is thrifted, besides maybe 3 or 4 random pieces, so I like to think everything has its own little memory attached. For example, I have a baby blue cardigan I thrifted visiting my hometown with my mom, and a tiered white cotton dress I found the first time I moved to New York City. There’s a baby pink trench coat my best friend, Abby thrifted and then passed on to me, and a red polka dot blouse I found the first time my boyfriend and I ever went thrifting together. I could probably go through my wardrobe and tell you the time I thrifted every little piece.
4. What’s one thing on your thrift list right now?
I’m on the hunt for some dark green high waisted denim after I regret passing up a pair a few weeks ago, and I’ve also been searching for a matching linen top and pant set. I also check for vintage chunky cardigans, long dresses, and kitten heels every time I set foot in a Goodwill.
5. Who or what inspires your style most?
I don’t necessarily have one person I look up to, but I do spend a ton of time on Pinterest. My favorite way to get outfit inspiration is from movies, people I see on the street, and just letting the pretty vintage pieces I find speak for themselves! I also have a million photos saved on Instagram I love to reference when I don’t know what to wear.
6. And the bonus question I like to ask everyone before they go: What’s something you’re really proud of right now?
On the grand scale, I’m extremely proud of myself for graduating college early in the major I’ve always wanted despite my family’s opinions, and living my childhood dream of moving to NYC before I’m even 21.
On a much smaller scale, I went through my sock drawers and finally let the singles go.
